Exercise Taiaha Canceled

Unfortunately we have had to make the decision to cancel Exercise Taiaha this weekend. This is due to an extremely poor weather forecast; it will not be safe for camping or tramping. We are disappointed, but this is ultimately necessary.

We are looking into alternatives at a later date. For now there will be no gear check this Thursday.

If you have already paid, it can be put towards our next activity, or otherwise we will refund. If you have any enquiries in regards to this, please email adj.

Thank you all for your understanding and patience.

Exercise Taiaha Gear Check

Reminder that with Exercise Taiaha coming up this weekend there will be a gear check this Thursday the 24th. Please bring the items listed in Bold on the gear list. If you are missing anything go to stores to get it issued.

Rock Skills Day, 3 Nov- Prof and above

Prof and above, NZOIA need some students to teach for their assessment. If you’re interested in being taught some rock skills sign up on CadetNet. This activity is on the 3rd of November from 0900 – 1430. Limited spots so first in first served. Information on the website forms page.

Changes to cellphone policy on ATC activities

We have had some recent concerns around inappropriate cellphone use on exercise, as well as a cellphone loss.

Because of this, we have made the decision that cellphones are no longer permitted to be used during an overnight ATC activity. We encourage Cadets to leave their phones at home. If phones are brought on an overnight activity they will need to be handed to a staff member at the beginning of the activity. We will store the devices securely for the activity and return them at the end. If a Cadet requires their phone to make contact with their caregivers to arrange pick up, this will be facilitated.

If any caregiver feels that their Cadet needs access to their cellphone during an activity for any reason, please contact the unit on adj@17squadronatc.com and this will be arranged.

A reminder also, that our Squadron Standing Orders https://www.17squadronatc.com/squadron-standing-orders/ states that cellphones are not to be used during parade nights, unless required for an activity.

Cup day fundraising

Our annual Cup day fundraising period is fast approaching.

All parents and caregivers should have received an email from our Unit Support Committee Secretary, Neil Wech, with a google form to fill in regarding availability to help over this fundraising period. Please check your spam folder if you have not received the email, or alternatively find the link to the form here: https://forms.gle/PYeerJSvpWgoGXp79

Cadets will also be required to assist with our cup day fundraising on Tuesday, 12th November, approximately 1800 – 1930hrs. Further details will be released closer to the time, but please pencil this event in now.

These events allow us to keep our annual subscriptions and camp costs low. We appreciate your support in making this possible.
