Rescheduled Flying Days:

We have managed to reschedule the microlight and gliding flying days that were cancelled due to weather. Applications are currently open on Cadetnet, but only apply if you were confirmed to go on the previously cancelled ones. The dates are 15th June for the microlight flying and the 29th of June for the gliding.

Payment names

When paying for items on the unit shop, please use your cadets name in the “Cadet’s first name” and “Cadet’s last name” boxes. if a parent/caregiver is paying rather than the cadet, please put this in the “Bill payer” box.

Exercise Ardua this weekend

The weather is looking cold and wet for this weekend!

Fortunately, if needed we have ample indoor facilities at West Melton Army Range to run a fun and challenging competition. All personnel will be housed in bunkrooms.

Please ensure that you pack plenty of warm clothing, and water proof layers. If you think you might need to borrow some of these items from the unit stores, approach them this Thursday.

17 Squadron Dining In 2025

17 Squadron’s annual unit Dining In is happening on the 26th of June at Addington Raceway. Please apply on Cadetnet no later than the 16th of June and ensure that any dietary requirements and/or allergies are up to date. This can be done through the ‘next of kin approval’ on Cadetnet.

Dining In is a formal dinner event following military traditions where we will have dinner, dessert, speeches, promotions and recognition of achievements.

The cost of this event is subsidised by the unit, leaving a cost to the Cadet of $10. Please pay via the shop no later than the 16th of June.

Do not turn up to Wigram that Thursday as no one will be there to let you in, if you are not able to attend please stay home!

SA Skills – All welcome to apply

We have the opportunity for extra cadets to attend Southern Area Skills from the 10th – 12th of July. Those not already selected for the 17 Squadron team will be reserves and help to fill out numbers for other unit teams, as well as act as cadet staff for activities.

If you would like to attend this amazing activity, please apply on CadetNet before Thursday night. Ensure you apply for “SA Area Aviation Skills Competition” under the ATP tab.

Applying does not guarantee the opportunity to attend, however we will be sending as many cadets as there is capacity for.

Aviation Skills Trainings

Our first weekends of Aviation Skills training are coming up on the 18th, 25th and 31st of May at the block (Cadet Training Center Wigram).

Attendance at these trainings is compulsory for anyone who wants to be considered for the team that we will be sending to the Southern Area Aviation Skills competition happening from the 10th to the 13th of July. At these trainings, we will be practicing what has been included in previous competitions such as fitness/RFL, teamwork, GSK, CFK and first aid.

We encourage anyone interested to come along and participate, even if you aren’t sure if you want to be on the team. These trainings are an extension of the training which is already (and will continue to be) held at the block from 1700-1800 before a parade night.

If you are unable to attend one or more of these trainings, but still wish to be considered for the team please come see the training office on Thursday.

Flying May 2025:

On the 18th of May, we will be holding more flying for Basic 2, Proficiency and Advanced. Basic 2 will be able to go microlight flying out at Rangiora Aerodrome. This will be limited to 12 cadets at a cost of $30 each. 5 cadets from proficiency and advanced will have the opportunity to go gliding out at Springfield Aerodrome. For both activities, we will be prioritising those who haven’t flown yet this year, and if we get more applications than spots we have allowed for, cadets who have already flown will be added to a reserve list.

More details will follow on Thursday. Applications for both activities are open on cadetnet.

Air Skills Trainings

From this week, the time before our parade night (5pm – 6pm) that is usually PT team, will be used for Air Skills Training.
Air Skills is the Regional and National ATC competition and there are limited places on each team. These trainings help us to choose our team members. Trainings can involve first aid, teamwork activities, runs, fitness tests, sports games, general service knowledge, and more.
Come to the block at 5pm in PT gear with a drink bottle, towel, and your ironed uniform.
Everyone is welcome to attend, and it is highly recommended that you attend if you wish to be considered for skills team selection.
If you have any questions, see F/S Francis or speak to the training office.
